ONE BOOK, ONE SCHOOL

We are so excited to start reading Brambleheart!  The books will be coming home with the oldest child today.  A reading calendar is set up so the ENTIRE SCHOOL is on the same reading schedule.  Stay on schedule so you can answer the questions each day and possibly win prizes!  Thanks to the PTSO for setting up a fun whole school literacy activity.

Direct from an Author!

How cool is this?!  MGES got a personal message from author Chris Grabenstein.  He is the author from the Battle of the Books book Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library. There will be a Battle of the Books meeting on Wednesday, February 21 where they will be discussing this fun book.

Boots and Bunker Safety Assembly

We always love to have Boots and Bunker visit our school to teach us about safety.  This year they reminded us of the rules when it comes to:  crossing the street, finding medicine that isn't ours, smoke alarms/fires, and internet use.  Thanks for helping us stay safe.

Assembly with Author MIKE KNUDSON

What a fantastic assembly we had yesterday.  Mike Knudson is the author of the Raymond and Graham book series and is also someone who loves burritos, oatmeal, and to make a room full of kids laugh.  He shared his brainstorming process and really helped us understand how to get our creative minds started.  Thank you, Mike, for letting us keep your brainstorming picture you shared with our school....it's sure to help us write some GREAT stories in the near future.  We can't wait to get your books and hear how you really feel about Mrs. Gibson.  ;)

"Why are doctors great?" ~ "How do doctors make a difference?"

It's not too late to join the BATTLE!

Alrighty - have you joined the battle yet? If not.....let's do it!  Those of you who have, please help encourage our entire class to join in the fun.  Prizes, treats, collaborating with your friends, getting smarter, and the chance of winning are GREAT motivation to BATTLE IT OUT.  HERE are the details about the Battle of the Books and HERE is a list of books you can read and be tested on.  They are available at MGES, Morgan library, Amazon Kindle/Audible, and Pioneer ebook/audio.

Parents, I encourage you to have a good conversation about this fun opportunity with your child.  As I've talked to kids to find out how they're doing, some have mentioned they aren't participating because they feel like they are bad test takers.  What a teachable moment....this is a great time to practice testing because it doesn't go towards their grade.  You miss 100% of the shots if you don't take them, right? Let's help them believe in themselves, be brave to "take those shots," and trust their abilities.

They do have Book Club Meetings, but they're not mandatory. All meetings take place in the gym on Wednesday mornings at 8:00.  Here are the dates for the remaining meetings:
January 24
February 7
February 21
March 7
